IN LOVING MEMORY

Bruce Joseph Sims

Jan 24 1981 - Nov 26 2017

Bruce Joseph Sims, age 36, of Garland, Texas, passed away November 26, 2017.  He was born January 24, 1981 in Moreno Valley, California to Donnie Joe Sims and Elaine (Bailey) Sims.  On December 17, 2016, Bruce married Aimee Walden in Murphy, Texas.

Bruce Loves Jesus.

Bruce Believes in Jesus for his salvation and Forgiveness of his sins.

Bruce’s hope for eternal life Is Jesus.

Bruce gave his life to Jesus and actively sought His direction on how to live, work and play on this earth.

Bruce loved his church and the church community.  He volunteered in youth programs and traveled nationally and internationally on mission trips through Lakepointe.   He had a great love for Egypt and the Village Transformation program where he sponsored families.  His wife Aimee after many years of friendship said she realized he was the man she loved and wanted to marry after going on mission trip with the Lakepointe group along with Bruce.

Bruce graduated from UTD and was an elementary school educator specializing in English as a Second Language.  His passion was to teach, encourage, and mentor his students as they pursued their educational goals.   He became Chess Master at his school leading the Chess Club and tutoring for the Geography Bee in addition to his many educational responsibilities.   In his spare time he created educational You Tube videos so that parents would have fun resources to help their children learn.

Bruce told family and friends that God called him to go to seminary.  In 2015 he graduated from Dallas Theological Seminary with a Masters in Christian Education.

Bruce was an avid Christian writer.  His blog “Call 2 Witness” is inspired by biblical principles and his desire to teach life application.   In addition to his blog, his written works include self-published poems and narratives of select books of the Bible.  He was very excited about a new fictional project he was working on directed towards middle-schoolers.

Bruce knew he was a sinful man.  He shared his struggles with his family and friends and how the Lord’s loving grace was upon him, helping and growing him.  He never delayed in going to people to ask forgiveness when he knew he was in the wrong.  He often was the peacemaker on behalf of others struggling with their relationships.

He loved the outdoors, his family and pets, Reese’s peanut butter cups and Coke-Zero.  He loved being Aimee’s husband.  Marrying her was one of his greatest joys.

Being an uncle to little Naomi was such a blessing to him.  When he spoke of her or shared pictures and stories he was a puddle of Uncle-ish adoration of this amazing little person.  He could not wait to be a father himself or for the family to grow, especially in the Lord.  He was so proud of his cousins Sean, Ashley and Jamie and their accomplishments and the amazing people that they are.   Many times he would recall the fun stories and great family times with his Aunts Penny and Kara and Uncle Dan.  He and his sister Evangeline were the best of friends and sometimes the worst but love never failed.

Bruce loved Aimee’s family.  He tutored her little brother Braylin in his school work and recently started sharing about God with him.   Aimee’s family shared stories of Bruce playing laser tag with Braylin on a recent camping trip and jumping on the trampoline in the backyard.

His brother in Christ, Brandon Bayron said…”I’m going to miss you, man. We started as friends when we were both grown up boys with YuGiOh cards and ninja fantasies.  We stayed good friends as we both grew up into men.  And you are a great man.

Everyone gets busy, but I always noticed that you were one of the few that never let that get in the way of remembering to say hi and see how I was, no matter how busy you were.

I remember talking with you about Aimee from first crush, through pursuing her, and all the way to marrying her. I remember telling you that, one day, when a boy takes an interest in my daughter, I hope it’s someone who will pursue her like you pursued Aimee.

I remember being inspired by your dedication to the Mission, and always carrying your Mission objectives with you - at the Y, at Harmony, in Egypt, in your own home, and with your friends.

I’m sad because the world needs more people like you, and we have found ourselves with one less instead.

I find comfort in two thoughts. First, that you were surrounded by people who told you all this while you were with us - people who not only valued you, but expressed that to you. Second, that I know you are getting all of life’s questions definitively answered right now, something that you always looked forward to.

Miss you bro.”

On Tuesday, November 28th at 5am Bruce went on his last mission trip in Jesus Name to help people in great need by giving what was left of himself.   His family was told that every organ was matched to a recipient.  It’s unknown how many people will be blessed with his bone marrow.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Aimee Sims of Garland, Texas; father, Donnie Joe Sims and wife Diana of Reno, Nevada; mother, Elaine Sims of Murphy, Texas; siblings, Evangeline Driscoll and husband Michael of Ankeny, Iowa, Charliee Sims of Reno, Nevada, Gene Kutzer and wife Shelly of Fort Jones, California; nieces, Naomi Driscoll and Riley Kutzer; nephews, Drake and Chase Kutzer; grandfather, Bruce C.
