Bro. Joe Neil Smith of McKinney, Texas passed away on February 15, 2018 at the age of 80. He was born on March 7, 1937 to Willie and Sally Jo (Tarpley) Smith in Edhube, Texas. Bro. Joe married Paula Jane Meek on June 15, 1956 in Bonham, Texas. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Bro. Joe was a pastor in the North Texas area for 51 years. He also taught in the McKinney ISD and other area schools for 25 years.
Bro. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Paula Smith of McKinney; children, Tony Smith and wife, Kathi also of McKinney, Glenyss Barnhill and husband, Kent of Lorena, Texas and Darrell Smith and wife, Cherie of Longview, Texas; daughter-in-law, Cathy Harris Smith of Lubbock, Texas; grandchildren, Matthew Smith, Andrew Smith, Dennis Ray Smith, Jr., Robert Smith, Sarah Smith, Wesley Barnhill, Daniel Barnhill, Ashley Smith, Abby Smith and Krystal Seely; great-grandchildren, Hayden Gibbons, Gracelynn Russell and Cade Smith; siblings, David Smith of Lufkin, Texas, Ann Brown of Mansfield, Texas, Sherill Hash of Brock, Texas and Ronnie Smith of Waxahachie, Texas; and numerous other loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Sally Smith; his son, Dennis Ray Smith, Sr.; his brothers, Dale Smith, Glen Smith, Wetzel Smith and Mike Smith; and his sisters, Sue King and Linda Rogers.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 19, 2018 at First Baptist Church, 1615 W. Louisiana St., McKinney, Texas. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Sunday evening between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel in Allen.
