Brenda Jane McKinney

Brenda Jane Geers McKinney, 71, of Whitewright, Texas went home to be with Jesus on February 23, 2018 at 9:46 AM, after a long, brave battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family when she died, and they were praising God for her triumphant passing. Brenda was born November 20, 1946, the daughter of Dr. Paul E. and Mrs. Rosalie Geers of Whitewright. Brenda spent her life serving others through her nursing career. As a young girl, Brenda loved working with her Dad in his clinic and became a nurse because of her love of helping others through medical care. She began her nursing career at an early age with her LVN, then advanced to a 2-year RN, followed by her bachelor degree in Nursing. In a career that spanned 50 years, she applied her many skills and her kindheartedness in helping her community.

Brenda worked in many fields of nursing throughout her career, and was always ready to help with anything anyone needed. She worked as a county health nurse in Wood County, Texas and in several hospitals across Texas, generally in the ER and ICU, spending the most time in the ER in Galveston, Texas. She worked in several nursing homes in various positions but generally as Director of Nursing. She dedicated several years as a traveling nurse across the country where she enjoyed seeing new places and meeting new people. She taught nursing school for a few years at one time as well. Ever the generous caregiver, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Mother-in-Law, and Aunt, Brenda was a shining example of God’s grace and mercy wherever she went and with whomever she came in contact. She always enjoyed a good joke and time spent with family.

Brenda is survived by her husband, David McKinney of Whitewright, Texas; son, Terry Jones and wife Karyn of Whitewright; daughter, Holly Jones Knowles and husband Stephen of Magnolia, Texas; and son Paul Jones and wife Kim of Anna, Texas. She is also survived by grandchildren Brittany Jones Ward and husband Cory of Belchertown, Massachusetts, Sarah Jones Villanueva and husband J.R. of McKinney, Texas, Ethan Knowles and wife Allie of Lindale, Texas, Luke Knowles and fiancé Ashley Just, and Zachary Knowles, all of Magnolia, Texas, Tyler Jones and wife Makayla, and Ashley Jones and fiancé Ehxar Zasquez, all of New Braunfels, Texas, Katherine Jones and Victoria Uresti, both of Anna, Texas; also, great grandchildren Gavin Jones and Kyle Jones.
