Bonnie Sue (Johnson) Bedell, a resident of Lucas, Texas, passed away May 22, 2026 at the age of 85. She was born on August 13, 1940, to her loving parents, Dewitt Clinton Johnson and Mary Earline (Chasteen) Johnson in Denton, Texas.
Bonnie grew up in Coppell, Texas, where she attended and graduated from Coppell High School. As a young woman, she saw the man who would become her future husband, walking down the street and famously said she knew she would marry him one day. In 1958, Bonnie married the love of her life, Walter Gerald “Jerry” Bedell, in Coppell, Texas, beginning a lifelong journey filled with love, laughter, and devotion. Together they built a beautiful family and were blessed with four children: Tim, Sandy, Wendy, and Scott.
While raising her children, Bonnie worked in the school cafeteria, where she enjoyed serving and caring for others. Her greatest joy, however, was being a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She rarely missed one of her children’s ballgames—whether baseball, football, or basketball—and everyone in the stands always knew she was there, proudly and loudly cheering on her kids.
Bonnie was well known for baking the best oatmeal cookies, carefully keeping her treasured recipe through the years. She enjoyed quiet moments reading books or watching movies while cuddled up with her beloved feline companions. She also loved the excitement of playing blackjack and never hesitated to put her money on the gray horse.
The Christmas season held a special place in her heart. Bonnie delighted in decorating her home with glowing Christmas displays and animated holiday figures, preparing delicious meals, and gathering loved ones together to celebrate the season she cherished so deeply.
Above all, Bonnie was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother who treasured her family. Her 12 grandchildren brought her immense pride and joy, and she created countless memories they will forever hold close to their hearts.
Bonnie was a faithful member of the Christian church in Allen, Texas, where her kind spirit and love for others reflected the faith she carried throughout her life. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
Bonnie is survived by her children: sons, Timmy Ran Bedell and wife, Jennenne of Sadler, Texas, and Sandy Lynn Bedell and wife, Sonia of Lucas, Texas and daughter, Wendy Gayle Pennington and husband, Bart of Anna, Texas; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family members and friends, who will miss her and cherish her memory.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, Dewitt and Mary Johnson, beloved husband, W.G. “Jerry” Bedell, son, Scott Bedell, and brothers, John, Jimmy, and Dewitt, Jr. Johnson.
