Bobbye Joyce Fisher passed away January 2, 2023, in McKinney, Texas, at the age of 83. She was born to Willard Cook and Alma Christine (Coffey) Pharr on June 4, 1939, in Lucas, Texas.
Bobbye met her sweetheart, Perry Fisher, on a blind date at the age of 15. They were married two years later on August 31, 1957. They moved to College Station, Texas, where Perry attended Texas A&M, and they started their family. They lived economically, a practice which they continued throughout their lives. At that time, a 10-cent ice cream cone was their weekend treat — a treat which Bobbye continued to enjoy even in her final years, though the price increased to $1, and the preferred choice became Braum’s Frozen Yogurt.
On October 31, 1958, Perry and Bobbye were baptized and became members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Bobbye served in many callings throughout her life including as a missionary alongside her husband in the London England Mission. She had a burning testimony of her Savior, Jesus Christ, and shared it with her caregivers up until her last days.
After Texas A&M, the Fisher Family moved to Greenville, Allen, and Dallas before settling down on their farm in Melissa in 1981.
Bobbye was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and an involved citizen who never met a stranger. She served on the Melissa ISD School Board and volunteered at the Food Bank and Public Library. She was a competitive card and board game player who shuffled like a Vegas dealer, shamelessly called out cheaters, and approached rounds of “Mafia” with her grandchildren with a kill or be killed attitude. Thanks to her infamous sweet tooth, family gatherings were never without dessert, her chocolate sheet cake never lasted long accompanied by Blue Bell Ice Cream.
Bobbye loved to sing. She’d wake you with song, sing while she worked, and was a one-woman choir in the pew on Sundays. She was a natural organizer, the woman you called to get things done. As her husband Perry once said, “She’s like a stick of dynamite.”
Bobbye is survived by her daughter, Laurie Johnson and husband Chuck of Dallas, Texas; son, Mike Fisher and wife Jenny of Van Alstyne, Texas; daughter, Kathy Tenney and husband Scott of Salt Lake City, Utah; daughter, Sheri Pierce and husband Greg of Gilbert, Arizona; daughter, Amy Burchett and husband John of Melissa, Texas; son, David Fisher and wife Liesl of Prosper, Texas; daughter, Krista Fisher currently residing in Alexandria, Virginia; 23 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brother, Carey Pharr of Allen, Texas; sister, Linda Cleveland of Van Alstyne, Texas; and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Perry Fisher, and her parents, Willard and Christine Pharr.
Bobbye’s life will be celebrated at a visitation Friday, January 6, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and a memorial service Saturday, January 7, at 11:00 a.m. Both will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 651 E Stacy Road, Fairview, Texas. Interment will be at Fitzhugh Cemetery in Allen, Texas.
