Bobby Pope Phelps

Bob Phelps passed away on March 7, 2022 in Dallas, Texas at the age of 89.  He was born to Coy Ennis and Garnetta (Pope) Phelps on December 17,1932 in Collin County, Texas.  Bob graduated from Dumas High School and attended the University of Oklahoma for one semester before joining the United States Navy in 1951.  He married Joyce Cooper on October 24, 1953 in Hutchinson, Kansas.  Bob loved engines, which served him well as an aircraft mechanic in the Navy.  

In his professional life, Bob worked as a draftsman and cartographer for several major oil and gas companies - Atlantic Richfield, Hunt Oil, Standard Oil, and British Petroleum.  His geologist friends greatly admired his hand-drawn geophysical maps. 

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, walking the mall with friends, and repairing or building just about anything around the house.

He is survived by his daughter, Teresa Roofner of Dallas, Texas; four grandchildren, Bradley Roofner and wife, Sarah of Austin, Texas; Brian Roofner and wife Emily, of Bremerton, Washington, Wesley Phelps and Melodie Sheeds, both of Farmers Branch, Texas, and 4 great grandchildren; sister, Shirley Goin and husband, Don Goin of Memphis, Tennessee and their son, Jerry and wife Jeannie; and cousins, Tommy Smith of Murrieta, California and Ernest Landry of Tuttle, Oklahoma.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Joyce Phelps, son, Scott Phelps, and son-in-law Bob Roofner.

A family graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 12, 2022 at the Old Celina Cemetery in Celina, Texas. Family and friends are invited to the funeral home at their convenience on Friday, March 11, 2022 to pay their respects and to sign the register book.
