IN LOVING MEMORY

Bobby Lewis Covington

Feb 10 1935 - Nov 11 2024

Bobby Lewis Covington passed away with his children at his side on Veteran’s Day, November 11, 2024 after an unfair battle with Alzheimer’s Disease at the age of 89. He was born on February 10,1935 to Robert Lee Covington and Jessie Mae (Lewis) Covington in McKinney, Texas. Bobby married Patsy Lee (Lair) Covington on June 8, 1957 and they enjoyed 60 years of marriage. Bobby was drafted into the Army in 1957 and was deployed to Germany. After returning home from Germany, they settled in the Rowlett / Sachse area. Bobby and Patsy owned and operated Liberty Grove Grocery for 12 years. Bobby was hired to work in cargo at Braniff Airlines in 1961. He commuted to Love Field before being transferred to DFW after it opened. Bobby spent 26 years at Braniff before leaving in 1982 when Braniff suspended operations. Following his time at Braniff, he was hired as a mechanic at E-Systems / Raytheon, where he worked until he retired in 2007. Bobby was an active member of First Rowlett United Methodist Church for over 50 years. He enjoyed camping, square dancing with Patsy, gardening, working on puzzles, and tinkering with everything from old cars to old lawn mowers. But most of all, he loved spending time with his family.

Bobby acquired the nickname “Rathole” from his siblings at some point when they were kids and it stuck. So, at every family gathering “Rathole” could be heard being said from the oldest of the group to the youngest. Everyone knew and loved “Rathole” dearly. Bobby will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Bobby was preceded in death by wife, Patsy Covington; son, David Lynn Covington; parents, Robert “Bob” and Jessie Covington; brothers, James “Sonny” Covington, R.L. Covington and Joe Covington; and sisters, Frances Airhart and Wanda Bowers; son-in-law, Duncan Campbell.

Bobby is survived by his children, Dale Covington and his wife, Kim, Diana Campbell, and Dee Dee Loving and her husband, Tony. He is also survived by six grandchildren and their spouses who he loved dearly; Kailee & TJ Brand, Dacey & Dennis Forward, Daron & Nick Doshier, Karlie & Josh Lewis, Kaden & Ale Covington, and Jonny Loving. He was blessed with eight surviving great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon, Friday, November 15, 2024 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.
