Bobby Jaye Bowers

Jan 19 1934 - Dec 21 2015

Bobby Jaye (Bob) Bowers was born in Dallas, Texas on January 19, 1934 to parents J.B. and Bonnie Lee Miller Bowers. He graduated from Crozier Tech High School in Dallas, Texas. He went to work after graduation for Johnson and Johnson in Dallas. He married Jessie Mae Edwards on February 19, 1954 in Dallas, Texas. He later moved with the J&J plant when they relocated to Sherman, Texas. This was where he would build a career and watch his family grow. He retired from J&J after 43 years of service. After retirement, finding the winter months boring, he worked part-time as a print company delivery man and a security guard at Certain Teed. He loved to be outside so summers were his time to really be retired and do what he enjoyed. He passed away December 21, 2015 at Beacon Hill Nursing Home in Denison, Texas.

Bob was a beloved father, papaw, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, and friend. He was always ready and willing to do whatever was needed and never complained or asked for a thing in return.

Bob had a kind, selfless heart and was a real family man. He worked as long and hard as it took to provide a great home and life for his wife and children. Most of all, he was a good Christian man, being saved into the Baptist faith and serving in many different capacities at the First Baptist Church of Howe, Texas. One of these was the financial committee that raised the funds for the current First Baptist Church of Howe, Texas. He later transferred his membership to the First Baptist Church of Tom Bean, Texas and was a faithful bible reader and knew and loved many passages in the bible.

Bob is survived by his wife, Jessie Mae Bowers of the home in Tom Bean, Texas, his daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Gary Smart of Tom Bean, son and daughter-in-law, Darrell and Laurie Bowers of Double Oak, Texas and son and daughter-in-law Duane and Laura Bowers of Tom Bean. Bobby is also survived by his beloved grandchildren and spouses: Amy (Geer) and Tim Robinson of Dickson, Oklahoma, Deanna Bowers of Flower Mound, Texas, Doug Bowers of Double Oak, Texas, Jeff Bowers and his fiancée, Jessica Jobe, of Denton, Texas, Jodi and Jimmy Bradley of Westminster, Texas, Gary Don Smart of Denison, Texas, Dean Smart of Sherman, Texas and Nathan Smart of Tom Bean, Texas. He was very proud to have and was dearly loved by his great-grandchildren: Christopher Stanley and fiancée Leslie Fulton of Tom Bean, Haylee Robinson of Dickson, Oklahoma, Aubrey Bowers of Flower Mound, Texas, Emma Bowers of Flower Mound, Texas, Beau, June, and Hailie Bradley of Westminster, Texas, Tristin Smart of Sherman, Texas, Leland Smart of Howe, Texas, and Lyricc Smart of Tom Bean, Texas. He is also survived by one great-great grandson: Layden Jaye Robinson of Dickson, Oklahoma.

Other surviving relatives include brother, Dr. Paul Bowers and wife Linda of Sherman, Texas, sister-in-law Dessie Dunlap of Arlington, Texas, and brother-in-law Dean Edwards and wife Jeanine of Irving, Texas. He also leaves behind a number of beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, J.B. and Bonnie Bowers, twin sister and husband, Ella Faye and Douglas Wayne Harris, grandmother Claudia Ann Miller, father and mother-in-law, Jesse and Isabelle Edwards, and brother-in-law Elmer Edwards and Jay Dunlap.

Services for Bob will be held Saturday, December 26, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at Turrentine Jackson Morrow Funeral Home, 201 W. Maple Street, Whitewright, Texas 75491. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. immediately before the services.
