Billye Ernelle Berry Thompson, our mom, grandma and friend, passed away on July 25, 2021 at the age of 85.
She was born in Celeste, Texas on October 30, 1935, to parents William and Mozelle Berry. She attended Celeste High School, and after moving to Greenville, TX graduated with honors from Greenville High School. While attending high school she was a member and an officer of the Flashes Drill Team, the school columnist for the Greenville newspaper, a member of the National Honors Society and several other clubs. Billye attended North Texas University and East Texas University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Education. After graduation, her family moved to Dallas, Texas where she taught English at Dallas Independent School District for 36 years. After retiring in 2002, she moved to McKinney, Texas to be closer to her family. She was a member of McKinney First Baptist Church and in her spare time, was a tutor at the elementary schools and could be found playing bridge with some of the clubs around town.
Billye loved her family very much and was so proud of them!
Billye is survived by her beloved daughter and best-friend, Martha Thompson of Murphy, Texas; her wonderful grandchildren, Jennifer Anne Thompson and her fiancé Cody Boyles of Justin, Texas and Amanda Gene Turner and her husband, David of North Lake, Texas; their mother, Sonja Thompson of McKinney, Texas; and her precious great-granddaughters, Shaila LaRae Thompson, Mira Jen Turner, and Dani Kay Turner.
She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Danny Thompson; her parents; and beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Billye became a Christian when she was nine years old and loved and trusted God and Jesus with all her heart and for for all her life.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 29, 2021 at Ridgeview Memorial Park, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.
