Funeral Services for Mr. Billy Charles Simmons, 95 year old Bailey resident, are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 29, 2019 at the First Baptist Church of Leonard. Brother Chad Leutwyler and Dr. James Ralson will officiate. Burial will be in the Arledge Ridge Cemetery near Bonham. Family visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Thursday, March 28, 2019 at the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Chapel at Leonard.
Bill was born February 28, 1924 at Whitesboro. His parents were David Andrew and Myra Lois Alexander Simmons. He spent his childhood in the Bailey/Leonard area and attended the Bailey Schools. He married Frances Louise Lance May 10, 1944 at Quanah, Texas. He worked as a grocer, was a member of the First Baptist Church of Leonard and served his country honorably as a member of the United States Marine Corp. He helped write a manual for pilots on how to troubleshoot the weapons on their planes and he also personally helped pilots to learn this skill. Bill passed away Sunday, March 24, 2019 at Garland Nursing and Rehab.
Bill is survived by his wife: Frances Louise Lance Simmons of Bailey; his son: Ronald Simmons of Bailey; his son and daughter-in-law: Charles and Jane Simmons of Bailey; his son and daughter-in-law: Kenneth and Janie Simmons of Murphy; his daughter: Myra Fritts of Bailey; his son and daughter-in-law: Roger and Carol Ann Simmons of Garland; his sisters: Grace Wright of Bonham and Frances Daniel of Ector; his brother and sister-in-law: James and Mary Simmons of Bailey; his brother: Glen Simmons of Bailey; his 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Munger and two brothers, George Simmons and David Simmons.
Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home of Leonard is in charge of arrangements.
