Billy Gene Lawson

Billy Gene Lawson, age 88, of McKinney, Texas, passed away on April 7, 2017 in McKinney, Texas.  He was born October 1, 1928 in Altoga, Texas to Troy and Floy Sullivan Lawson.  He married Rheta Bass on May 16, 1992 in Altoga, Texas.  He was of the Baptist faith.

Bill attended Altoga School.  He loved to farm and garden, but Bill’s true joy in life was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  They loved playing card games and marbles together.  Bill, Rheta, and his cousins enjoyed their weekly get together and travels throughout the country side. 

Bill was owner and operator of Bill’s Country Store and bailed hay for the public. He was also a member of the I. O. O. F. Lodge in Farmersville for several years.  He was also a member of the Altoga Church and served over a decade on Altoga Cemetery Board. 

He is survived by; wife, Rheta Lawson, wife of 25 years, sister, Betty Lawson of Garland, Texas, step-children, Terry Harris and wife Shawn, Laura Illingworth and husband David, Buster Harris all of Farmersville, Texas, 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by; brother, Glen Lawson, brother, Herman Lawson and stepson, Jimmy Harris.

Funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Hurst’s Fielder Baker Funeral Home.  Visitation will be at 2:00 p.m. before the service.  Burial will be in Altoga Cemetery in Altoga, Texas.
