IN LOVING MEMORY

Billy "Bill" Mac Lair

Aug 24 1939 - Aug 20 2020

Billy “Bill” Mac Lair of McKinney, Texas passed away at his home on August 20, 2020, at the age of 80.  He was born August 24, 1939 to William D. and Montess Lair of Anna, Texas.  Bill was a 1957 graduate of Anna High School.  After a brief tenure in banking, he started his land surveying career at Lone Star Gas Company, and then went on to create his own surveying company that served the community for many years.  Additionally, Bill served his country proudly in the United States Army from 1963 to 1965.  He retired at the end of 2004, which allowed him to devote more time to golf with his friends at Hurricane Creek Country Club where he had been a charter member since 1986. Bill was also able to spend more time managing his investments as he always preferred to do his own research.

Bill’s philanthropic endeavors included tireless years of service with the Williams Cemetery where he served as the president for many years, and Wesley United Methodist Church where he was a member for many years and served in various board capacities throughout the years.

Bill is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Hattie, as well as his daughter and son-in-law, Julie and David Anderson of Argyle, Texas, son and daughter-in-law, Lance and Christie Lair of McKinney, Texas, and most importantly his beloved grandson, Tyler Lair, of McKinney, Texas.   Watching Tyler play basketball was a highlight of Bill’s later years.  He is also survived by his brothers, Dan Lair and wife, Dee, Richard Lair and wife, Beverly, and Alan Lair and wife, Vickie; sister in law, Fay Lair; and  sisters, Marijewel Dickerson and husband, Roy and Kathy Parham; and brother in law, Doyle Williams.

He was preceded in death by two of his favorite golf buddies; older brother, Raleigh Lair; and good friend, Jon Moseley

Bill led an incredible life and in his quiet, thoughtful, and direct way, touched many lives and was an inspirational role model for his children.  We will think of him and miss him every day for the rest of our lives, but we are comforted by the fact that he lived his life exactly as he chose.

In support of our local, state and federal government, and to protect the physical health, safety and well -being of our community, the family has chosen to not hold a service.  Bill will be laid to rest at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas.

The family requests that in lieu of any flowers or food, memorial contributions may be made in Bill’s honor to the Mean Green Scholarship Fund, supporting scholarships for student athletes which       is a passion for Bill’s family.
