William Gary Warner died peacefully Sunday, August 26, 2018 at his home in Richardson, Texas at the age of 67. Bill grew up in Worthington, Ohio where he worked for his family’s different business ventures selling strawberries and corn, delivering wood, and making and selling apple cider. He was a 1968 graduate of Worthington High School. Bill received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Ohio State University in 1973 and his first job after graduation was at Texas Instruments. Later, Bill worked for Raytheon as an Electrical Design Engineer, where he designed air traffic control radar displays for the FAA and several foreign countries. Bill was an accomplished design engineer and contributed to several major microprocessor projects. He rose to become the manager of a group that designed large integrated circuits for a variety of defense systems. Bill retired from Raytheon in 2010 at the age of 60, completing 37 years as a highly successful electrical engineer.
He had a wide range of hobbies and interests, the foremost being amateur radio. Bill was active in clubs at his high school, Ohio State, and Texas Instruments. He made confirmed contacts with other hams in all states and over 120 countries across all continents. Bill was a ham for 52 years and absolutely loved the hobby. He was also an active member of the Spring Creek Model Railroad Club, and enjoyed working in his garden.
Bill will forever be remembered for his endless kindness and his giving nature. He freely gave his time and his love to his family and his church. For fifteen years, Bill taught three and four year old Sunday school at First Presbyterian Church of Richardson. He served as an elder and as a chaperone for numerous youth trips. After retirement, Bill devoted his time to working at the church, where he loved serving with the Sometimers and as the Head of the Facilities Ministry. The greatest joy in Bill’s life was being a loving husband, father, and grandfather. The countless lives he touched through his love and compassion are a testament to his life of selfless service, and he will be dearly missed.
Bill leaves behind his wife of 34 years, Jan Warner of Richardson, Texas; his two children, Andrew and his wife, Shelly; and Laura and her husband, Padraic; his sister, Jane; his brother, David; his grandson William; two grandchildren on the way, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dwight and Alice Warner.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 1, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church of Richardson, 271 Walton Street, Richardson, Texas 75081.
