William James Simpson, Jr. (better known as Bill to family and friends) was born on July 3,1948 in Baltimore, Maryland to parents Jeanette and William J. Simpson, Sr. Bill was raised in Aiken, South Carolina where he graduated from high school in 1966 and has lived in Frisco, Texas since 1989.
Bill entered the military on July 5, 1966 where he received numerous accomplishments for service in Vietnam, including the Army Commendation Medal. In addition, he was a combat medic. He terminated his military service July 3, 1969.
After serving his country, Bill attended the Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration where he successfully completed his Masters degree.
Bill dedicated his life to helping others as a healthcare executive until he retired in 2013. During his career, he served as a Chairman of the Board and CEO of numerous healthcare providers throughout the United States.
Upon retirement, he fulfilled his passion of horses by establishing Dunbarton Stables in his hometown of Aiken. He had a tremendous passion for Aiken where he had a strong desire to give back to the community that he felt gave so much to him. Bill and his beloved wife, Scarlett, purchased many horses over the last several years and they loved to watch them race in the annual Aiken Trials. Bill eventually went on to serve as Chairman of the Board of the Aiken Training Track.
In 2007, Bill met the love of his life, Scarlett, and they were married March 6, 2010 at The Willcox in Aiken. Over the past decade, they were fortunate enough to travel the world together. Some of Bill’s favorite adventures included walking on the Great Wall of China, zip lining in Costa Rica, standing on the cliffs in Portofino, Italy, wine tasting in Romania, shopping in The Grand Bazaar in Istanbul, visiting the site of the Yalta Conference, and being serenaded by a symphony orchestra in the Coliseum in Ephesus, Turkey.
Among all of Bills accomplishments, his two sons, Robert and Brian, were considered to be his crowning achievements. There was never a day Bill was not proud of them.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Scarlett; son, Robert and his wife Amber; son, Brian and his wife Kathleen; step-son, Shane Walker and his wife Sarah; step-daughter, Kimberly Copeland and her husband Sha; step-daughter, Krystal Hunsucker and her husband Brad; and sister, Susan Simpson. Grandchildren include Colton, TJ, Will, Sadie, Walker, Waverly, Maverik, Mempis, Boone, Kaitlyn, Natalie, and Cash.
