Beverly May Benton Huffman, the daughter of Gerald William and Madge Kathryn (Meyer) Benton, was born on December 4, 1924, at their farm in Guthrie County, Iowa. She died May 2, 2022, at Texas Health Hospital in Allen, Texas.
Beverly attended rural school in Guthrie County, then graduated from the Viola Consolidated School with the class of 1942 at Audubon County, Iowa. She then attended Capitol City Commercial College at Des Moines, Iowa. Prior to her marriage she was employed at the American Abstract Company of Des Moines, Iowa, then at the Social Service office at the Audubon County Courthouse.
Beverly was baptized and confirmed at the First United Methodist Church at Audubon in 1944. She was married to L. Guy Huffman on January 10, 1945, at the Methodist church in Audubon by Rev. Hugo Orf. A daughter, Sherrie Rae was born to this union on September 17, 1946. They were blessed with nearly 62 years of marriage.
Beverly and husband Guy were employed at the Iowa Ordnance Plant at Burlington, Iowa, after their marriage and returned to Audubon County where they began their farming career. Beverly worked at the office of White and Mantz, Attorneys in Audubon and then helped her husband with the farming. They rented farms until they bought their farm in 1962 and continued there until retiring and moving to their home in Atlantic, Iowa, in 1996. In earlier years, Beverly was a longtime volunteer for the American Cancer Crusade and the Heart and Lung Association (Christmas Seals). She also enjoyed being a member of the Greeley Tap Sunshine Helpers Club for many years.
In August 2006, Beverly and Guy moved to Prosper, Texas to be near their family. Her husband Guy died November 24, 2006, and she continued to live in her own home until July 2021.
She is preceded in death by her husband Guy, her parents, parents in law, Charlie and Nina (Fairchild) Huffman, her brother and sister-in-law William and Ruth Benton, great grandson Chase Schroeter, brothers in law and sisters in law; Wayne and Evelyn Huffman, Lyle and Verla Huffman, Raymon and Mildred Dreher, and sister-in-law Shirley Huffman.
She is survived by her daughter Sherrie and husband Doug Schroeter; four grandchildren Aaron Schroeter and wife Jeannie, Troy Schroeter, Stephanie Wells, Stacy Dickerson and husband Blake; Eleven great grandchildren Hailey, Ryan, Elizabeth, Seth Schroeter; Allyson and Erica Goldsberry; Lauren and Lainee Wells; Derek, Devin and Joshua Dickerson; three great great grandchildren Rainey Foley, Aspynn and Hudson Schroeter; her brother-in-law Jerry Huffman; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A graveside service will be held at a later date at Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon, Iowa.
