My wife, Susan, and I met Bettye and most of her family at the time, in May of 1984. We were new to Allen and my wife was pregnant with our first child. Bettye was like a surrogate mother to me and I always enjoyed the opportunity to stop and talk about many things. I also got to know her Son Jim and his family as they attended church with Bettye for many years. Our families grew at the same time so we always had a lot to talk about each week when we would visit. We had so much in common! Bettye was like a beacon that always made light shine on everything. Unfortunately, I did not find out about her death and the funeral until after the fact, but I wish I could have visited with the family to express my personal condolences. Such a sad thing to see her leave this world but I know she is bringing an abundance of light with her to heaven! Please accept my prayers to the family! Ken Fulk, May 15, 2022 I met Betty at FUMC in 1975 when my husband and I joined the church. I’ve never known a sweeter, kinder person. And always had that lovely smile on her face. I pray for peace and comfort for her family. Rest In Peace Betty, thy good and faithful servant. Paula Holder, May 13, 2022 Bettye was a good friend to me and my family for many years. She was such a lovely, gracious, and devout Christian. We loved her. Pat Paxton, May 12, 2022 Betty Arnold was one of my first girlfriends. John and Bettye lived next door to my family in Ferris. I was a little girl, maybe 4 or 5, when Bettye and I became friends. I could walk to their duplex by myself to visit with Bettye in the afternoons. I don't remember what we talked about but I remember I loved to visit with her. So much so that my mother, Evelyn, would have to come and get me. Evelyn would say, "Sandra, its time to come home now, Bettye wants to visit with John." As a little girl, I didn't understand that, I thought they have all night to visit with each other. Being married now for almost 52 years, I understand that. She was such a la great example to a little girl and to me as an adult. Love to you always Bettye, Sandra Stein Witherspoon Sandra Stein Witherspoon, May 11, 2022 We, ( the Bookouts) fell in love with Bettye years ago. She and my mother, Rose Christian were close friends and members of the wonderful, active, involved, rowdy, spirit-filled Fellowship Sunday School Class. We got to host many of their pot-luck luncheons. Steve and our kids, Caulder and Sarah Ruth, we’re always in attendance.. Bettye’s hugs were as sweet as the desserts she shared. After my mother passed away, I continued to enjoy Bettye’s company at the monthly Tuesday Book Club. I think we looked forward to going to lunch after the presentation if not more than the book review. Many times I felt like Mother was with us.. what a blessing. She had a joyful personality and loved to laugh. I am so thankful she was part of our life. Dru and Steve Bookout Dru Bookout, May 11, 2022 Betty was such a lovely lady!
