Betty L. (Lamm) McAuliff of McKinney, Texas passed away on February 10, 2017 at the age of 94. She was born on August 18, 1922 to Ernest and Vera (Struve) Lamm in San Antonio, Texas where she graduated from Incarnate Word H.S. In college at Incarnate Word, she studied home economics and worked in the chemistry lab. On July 11, 1942, during WWII Betty married Jack McAuliff in San Antonio and moved to Waco, Texas, where he was stationed as a flight instructor. Before the war ended Jack became a colonel, which brought more moves. They settled in Dallas, Texas, and then in University Park where they raised 4 boys.
As an active mom, Betty played multiple supporting roles in her sons’ activities from soccer to cub scouts, and in her sons’ school organizations serving as president of the Jesuit Mothers’ Club, and active in the early years of Cistercian Preparatory School. She continued her service with Dallas A&M University Mothers’ Club, where as secretary and food editor of the cookbook committee published the first edition of Hullabaloo in the Kitchen.
As charter members of Brookhaven Country Club she enjoyed social activities with her friends. She loved to play bridge and made lasting friendships throughout her life. Flowers at her home brought her great joy, particularly the azaleas she planted at the lake house at Hide-a-Way Lake in Lindale, Texas, which made for wonderful Easters. Betty also enjoyed jewelry making, needlepoint, cooking, and entertaining.
Betty was the quintessential grandmother from first haircuts and making tea parties for the girls to fun times at the lake house with the boys, each knew they were special in her heart.
A devout Catholic, Betty would comment “We’ve built a lot of churches,” as she often found herself living where a new parish was formed. She was a member of the Christ the King Altar Society, and with the move to McKinney and St. Gabriel the Archangel she looked forward to seeing the new sanctuary.
Betty is survived by her sons, Tim McAuliff and wife, Cecilia of San Antonio, Texas, Mike McAuliff of Seattle, Washington, Stephen McAuliff and wife, Patricia of Dallas, Texas, Pat McAuliff and wife, Leeann of McKinney, Texas; ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; sister, Lita Anderlitch of San Antonio, Texas; and a host of other loving family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Vera Lamm; her husband, Jack McAuliff; and her sister, Marian Farrish.
