Betty Jo Ann Herman was born April 13, 1945 and passed away at 81 years old on August 23, 2026.
Betty was born in Denver, Colorado to Thomas and Bessie Dowd.
She met her soulmate at 15 years old, when a boy named Michael Herman fell through an ice patch in near their home, and the Dowds put him by the fire and insisted he warm up before heading home and the rest, as they say, is history.
Mike and Betty dated as teens and married after high school in 1964. Betty has three children, starting with Michael in 1966, followed by Katherine, and years later Thomas.
She was devoted to her children, often sewing and crafting bespoke items for the family. She supported her husband’s Military career, including living on base in Germany. Betty’s younger years were shaped by supporting military deployments, until her husband retired from the Army and the family moved to Texas in the early 1980s.
In addition to being a supportive wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Betty often adopted her children’s friends and was often called “mom” by many.
During her empty nest years, she worked in retail for over a decade helping customers with fabrics and crafts and sewing tips.
She loved animals and had a few dogs and cats throughout the years. Betty had a whimsical and down-to-Earth approach to life, and always believed everyone was equal and worthy of love and respect.
She will be dearly missed on Earth but was proceeded in death by her oldest child, Michael, her parents, Thomas and Bessie, and many other beloved friends and family members.
A memorial graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at Ridgeview Memorial Park, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.
