Betty Hamrick Peacock

Betty Peacock, 89, of Allen, Texas passed away in Plano, Texas on April 26, 2018 after a short illness.  She was born on October 28, 1928 to George E. Hamrick and Ida Lewis Hamrick in Sandy Springs, Georgia. Betty married Carl Peacock in 1948 and moved to Houston, Texas, where she was a homemaker until Carl's death in 1980.  Betty worked for Foley's/Macy's for 25 years in Houston and Tyler, Texas.

Betty was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She was very proud of her family and was blessed to be “Grandma” to her 4 grandchildren and “Granny” to her 6 great-grandchildren.  Betty loved holidays and vacationing with her family.   Any chance to spend time with her family was special and important to her. It was a joy and blessing to all that Betty lived with her daughter for the past 25 years.

Betty is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah Peacock Shafer and Gary Shafer of Allen, Texas; grandson, Matthew Lair of Dallas, Texas; granddaughter, Kristin Shafer Cook and husband, David of Plano, Texas; grandson, Neil Shafer of Allen, Texas; great-grandsons, Knox Lair, Nash Lair and Nixon Cook; great-granddaughters, Myla Cook, Clara Cook and Ocean Shafer; brother, Hubert M. Hamrick and wife, Pearl Hamrick of Sandy Springs, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl Peacock; grandson, Ryan Lair;  sisters, Flossie Sauls, Ester Barber, Maybelle Rainey and Bertha White; brothers, Olin Hamrick, Fred Hamrick and George Hamrick, Jr. 

A memorial service celebrating Betty's life will be scheduled at a later time.
