Betty Sue Spurgin Powell Cordes, age 76 of Leonard, Texas passed away March 9, 2015 in McKinney, Texas. She was born September 23, 1938 in McKinney, Texas to Garnett Lee “John” and Artie Pearl (Mullins) Spurgin. She was a member of King Memorial Baptist Church. Betty was the Collin County “Cantaloupe Lady” for forty years. She loved her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, William “Bill” J. Cordes of Trenton, Texas; daughters, Debbie Wingfield and husband Ted of Bennington, Oklahoma, Rita Sadler and husband Mark of Trenton, Texas and Nita Burns and husband Steve of Trenton; step-children, Dillon Wells of Arlington, Texas, Cassie Wells of Conroe, Texas and Christina Robinson and husband Eric of Victoria, Texas; sixteen grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren; brothers, Jackie Spurgin and wife Margaret of McKinney, Texas, Gary Spurgin and wife Donna of Cornith, Texas and Mike Spurgin and wife Janice of Melissa, Texas; sister, Joyce Stevens and husband Bill of Gordonville, Texas and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, John and Pearl Spurgin; husbands, Melvin Powell and James D. Love and brother, Bobby Spurgin.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, March 12, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Allen, Texas. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas.
