IN LOVING MEMORY

Bettie Joyce Woodward

Jan 06 1934 - Apr 21 2019

The loving Bettie Joyce Woodward, of McKinney, Texas passed away peacefully with her loving family at her side on April 21, 2019 at the age of 85.  She was born on January 6, 1934 to Willie and Irene (Turner) Lett in La Grange, Georgia. Joyce was retired from the Biology Department of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. She also held specialized degrees in spousal love and affection, master of sewing, child development and encouragement and was a culinary arts resident expert. Joyce never knew a stranger and was an honorable, devout Christian and a Good Samaritan at heart. She was the glue of the family and the mortar of our home. Her unconditional love extended beyond her family and she especially cherished time she could spend with her grandchildren; “what happens at grandma’s stays at grandma’s”.  All who knew her loved her dearly and will never forget her grace, charm, undying love and the care she had for each and every one of them. May she rest in peace in the presence of the Lord.

Upon her arrival, she will bathe in the everlasting light of the Lord, healing her earthly body as she begins to prepare a new home for those she has left behind: loving children, Michael E. McCartan and Patrice I. Kohn and husband, Dale N. Kohn; granddaughters, Katie Wilson and Nikki McCartan; great-granddaughter, Lauren Wilson; sister, Louise Wiley; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death and will reconnect with her husband, Charles J. Woodward; parents, Willie J and Irene Lett; and daughter, Kathleen Edith McCartan.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 25, 2019 at Tom Wages Funeral Home located at 3705 Highway 78 West, Snellville, Georgia 30039.  Interment will follow at Eternal Hills Memory Garden, 3594 Highway 78 West, Snellville, Georgia.  The family will receive friends during a visitation on Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Gracious Care Home in McKinney, Texas for their excellent care, love and support. In addition, our Mom had dedicated and stellar hospice care led and directed by Christy Reynolds, RN, with Provista Hospice in Dallas, Texas.
