Bettie Lou Andrews Lundy passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 4, 2024 in McKinney, Texas at the age of 94. She was born to the late B. B. Andrews and Anna Beasley Andrews of Dickson, Tennessee on April 18, 1930 and was raised in Dickson, Tennessee. She married Phillip D. Lundy of Tyler, Texas on December 28, 1951 and moved to Texas. They moved to several locations in Texas and New Mexico finally settling in Lafayette, Louisiana and was a resident there for over 30 years. In 1994, they moved back to Texas to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and devoted her life to the service of the Lord. Her family was her whole world, and she deeply loved each one of them. She was a devoted and loving wife for 56 years, accompanying her husband, Phillip, to the many cities that his demanding job required. In the last 20 years of their marriage, she cared for Phillip throughout his battle with Alzheimer’s until his passing in 2007. After Phillip’s passing, she assisted in the writing and publishing of a book, Virtuous Servant, with her older brother, Dan Andrews, documenting her Aunt Sarah Sheppard Andrews’ life as a missionary in Hiroshima, Japan during World War II. Bettie traveled and held public speaking engagements promoting the book. The proceeds of the book sales went toward women missionaries internationally. She also conducted many speaking engagements providing support and encouraging caregivers and family members who struggled with loved ones suffering with Alzheimer’s disease. She was a great inspiration to many with her compassion, biblical wisdom, and constant encouragement. She had a great personality and was very loving and compassionate while maintaining a positive attitude and an incredible sense of humor. She made so many close friends everywhere she went.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Don Lundy; brother, Dan Beasley Andrews and sister-in-law, Roberta Neblitt Andrews; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill Hollingshead and Pat Lundy Hollingshead; her nephew, Ward Neblitt Andrews; and grandson, Wanner Phillip Lundy.
