It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Bertha Shavel Okhsar. She passed away January 29, 2020 as she left her earthly family and friends for the love of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to enter into her heavenly home to be welcomed by her heavenly Father.
Bertha was born in Urmia Iran on February 14, 1944 to her loving parents Rabi Emanuel Shavel Okhsar and Sarah Azizi, as their eldest of five Children, her brother and sisters Camilla, Henry, Beauty and Nahrain. She went to school in Urmia and after her graduation, she entered into the Iranian Peace Corps and received her education as a teacher. Bertha taught Assyrian children in the surrounding villages. After meeting and marrying her husband Nathan Nasseri, they moved to Tehran. They had two sons; Newton and Ramel Nasseri. Newton preceded his family to heaven at the age of one. Bertha had three passions in her life, her church and nation, her family, and her career in education. Her passion was teaching and she taught in several schools in Tehran. After a few years, she was promoted to the position of dean of students and continued her career at the Assyrian School of Shoushan. She was always involved in the Assyrian cultural community and she was an active member of St. Jacob’s Holy Apostolic Catholic Assyrian Church of the East. In 1985 her family escaped the war in Iran and moved to Germany and after eight years they reached their final destination of immigration in Dallas, Texas. She continued to work in the school system of McKinney in food services as she enjoyed to serve children in any capacity to assist them in excelling in their education goals.
In her latter years she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s/ MSA and she battled the disease stoically trusting her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for over six years until she was finally called home to her heavenly father. She leaves behind her family and friends who will miss her dearly but pray and rejoice for the end of her suffering and her salvation in Christ.
A wonderful Mother, loving wife, a loyal and caring friend, and excellent teacher, a proud Assyrian, and a devout daughter of the Church, is her stellar legacy that she leaves behind.
Rest in peace and may God shine his light upon you and welcome you into everlasting life.
We pray in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,
Amen
