Berta Ann Reed of McKinney, Texas passed away October 17, 2018 at the age of 83. She was born September 12, 1935 to H. Wiley Embry and Jessie (Overton) Embry in Dallas, Texas. Ann was an Aerospace Engineer for Chance Vought Aircraft from 1956-1960. She earned her doctorate from the University of Dallas. Ann taught for Dallas ISD from 1968-1975 and Richardson ISD from 1975 to 1996. She was a “Texas Teacher of the Year” recipient. Ann was a member of the 99ers, Delta Kappa Gamma Honorary Education, Alpha Delta Pi Social Sorority, and North Dallas Book Club. She was an accomplished bridge player. Ann was an active member of First United Methodist in McKinney, Texas since 2001.
She is survived by her husband, Walter “Duke” Reed, III of McKinney, Texas; daughters, Lorna Koenig of Florida and Caren Gonzales and husband, Lon of Corpus Christi, Texas; sons, Gordon Crook and wife Leanne of Allen, Texas and Hank Koenig and wife, Pam of Frisco, Texas; eight grandchildren; step-children, Webster Reed of Bangore, Maine, Katy Reed also of Bangore, Maine, and Elizabeth Reed of Fort Fairfield, Maine.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 3, 2018 at First United Methodist Church, 315 North Church Street, McKinney, Texas 75069. Friends and family are invited to the funeral home at their convenience on Friday, November 2, 2018 to sign the register book.
