Our beautiful and sweet mother, Barbara Jean Richmond of Plano, Texas passed away on August 6th, 2023 at the age of 92. She was born May 15, 1931 in Paducah, Kentucky to Grandford Woodford Shelton and Pauline Cochran Shelton.
She married James Buren Richmond on July 15, 1953. They were married 63 years until his passing. They enjoyed a wonderful life together filled with love and adventures. Barbara and Jim had four children together-Paula Hendrix (E.B.), Pam Goodwin (Stan), Marty Richmond (Susan) and Chris Richmond. She was Mamaw to Emily Powell (Chad), Eli Hendrix IV (Krista), Howie Richmond (Em), Margaret Richmond (Max Shapiro), and Jonny Richmond. She was Great Mamaw to Trevor Powell, Emma Powell, Marion Richmond, Ellie Richmond, Lyla Hendrix, Eli Hendrix V, and Sam Shapiro. Barbara’s family was the light of her life. She had a special relationship with each one of her family members. She was loving, supportive, and always available for each one of them. She spent her life doing kind things for others. Barbara made holidays, birthdays, and every day special. When you visited Mamaw, you always knew she would have a pot of coffee and a delicious dessert ready. She truly knew how to make you feel loved and welcomed. She loved traveling with her family. She and Jim went on many trips with her sisters and brother. They also took many vacations with their children and grandchildren. She also collected dolls with her sister-in-law. She loved making quilts with her mother and cross stitching. She was an outstanding cook and baker. She loved planting flowers and gardening. She loved attending Broadway Musicals. She was a member of Custer Road United Methodist Church. She enjoyed every minute of her life and was truly a joy to be around.
She is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Margie Montgomery, her sister, Mary Langston, and her brother, Don Shelton. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families. She will be missed by everyone that knew her.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 14, 2023 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas. The family will receive guests during a visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be held at Ridgeview Memorial Park following the service.
