Barbara Ann Van Schaik, age 85, of McKinney, Texas, passed away July 30, 2022. Barbara was born March 1, 1937, in Lexington, Kentucky, to George and Pearl (Hubbard) Barrett. She married Edward A. Van Schaik on August 26, 1954, in Liberty, Indiana.
Barbara had many hobbies including painting, gardening, photography, traveling, and shopping. She was also a huge sports fan and had a passion for hockey and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Barbara’s career included developing photographs at a lab in Columbus Ohio, taking newborn baby photographs at hospitals throughout the Columbus area, and working for the Ohio Department of Taxation until she retired.
She is survived by her children, Sonna Breckenridge of McKinney, Texas, Linda Jaramillo of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and Richard Van Schaik of Columbus, Ohio; and grandchildren, Shannon Breckenridge of McKinney, Texas; Sam Jaramillo of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; Alaina Van Schaik, Michael Van Schaik, Christian Van Schaik, and Brianna Van Schaik, all from Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward A. Van Schaik, son, Edward G. Van Schaik, parents, George Barrett and Pearl Rogers (Barrett), and sister, Sandy Smith.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in honor of Barbara to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org. This is the disease that Barbara battled the last 10 years of her life.
A private family ceremony will be held soon in Sarasota Florida for both Barbara and her sister Sandy who recently passed.
