B. Reid Presson, Jr. age 70, of McKinney, Texas passed away April 3, 2005, in McKinney. He was born on December 30, 1934, in Charlotte, North Carolina to Banks R. and Amaryllis Killian Presson. On December 26, 1953, he married Shirley McIntyre in Charlotte. He was a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology earning a bachelors in Electrical Engineering with honors in 1958. Following graduation from the Georgia Institute, he began a career in aerospace electronics with Bell Telephone Laboratories and Texas Instruments. In 1962 he joined SCI Systems, Inc. in Huntsville, Alabama, a start-up company specializing in aerospace and defense electronics. He spent 17 years at SCI in varying management capacities including 10 years in corporate management. In 1979 he founded Scan Tex, Inc., providing specialized computer systems for factory productivity monitoring the applications in textile manufacturing, plastics molding and packaging. He joined Intellicall in 1985 as Vice President and served in several management capacities during Intellicall’s emergence as a leader in the public communications industry. Mr. Presson was responsible for developing and implementing the company’s regulatory strategy and practices including participation in formal proceedings and workshops related specifically to the use of automated technology and to payphone issues generally at both the state and federal levels. He was a board member of the Public Telecommunications Council, a member of the American Public Communications Council Legal Committee and Intellicall’s representative to the Communications Fraud Control Association. He retired from Intellicall in 1998 and continued to serve as a consultant to the company for several years. Mr. Presson was an avid reader enjoying everything from mysteries to the classics. He also enjoyed classical music and playing golf with his golfing buddies. His integrity was above reproach and he was respected by all who knew him. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 51 years, Shirley Presson of McKinney; sons, Curtis Presson and wife, Yvonne of Plano, Texas and Douglas Presson and wife, LuAnn of McKinney; 5 grandchildren, Ashley, Caroline, Dalton, Banks and Cole; sisters, Julia Edwards of Goldsboro North Carolina and Cindy Foster and husband, Bailey of McDonough, Georgia; several nieces, nephews and other loving relatives; and his pet rat terriers, Trixie and Dixie. His son, Todd Christopher Presson and parents preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 7, 2005, in the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel with Dr. James Puckett officiating. Interment will follow at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 p.m., Wednesday at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Presson’s name to Union Gospel Mission, 3211 Irving Boulevard, Dallas, Texas 75247.
