Arthur J.R. Lax of Garland, Texas passed away on April 3, 2023 at the age of 91. He was born on April 15, 1931 to Arthur and Cora (Seals) Lax in Jumbo, Oklahoma. J.R. graduated from Mt. Vernon High School and attended Kilgore Jr. College to study auto mechanics. He served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Korean War. J.R. married Patsy Ann Davis on May 19, 1957 in Sulphur Bluff, Texas. He worked for Braniff for 23 years as an aircraft inspector and retired from E-Systems. J.R. was a member of the First Baptist Church of Garland. He was known by his family as PaPa. He loved fishing, playing cards, western movies and books, reading his Bible, working in his garden, and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.
J.R. is survived by his wife, Patsy Lax of Garland, Texas; children, Dennis Lax of Arlington, Texas, Felicia McKinney and husband, Don of Princeton, Texas, and Kristi Byrne and husband, Tony of Greenville, Texas; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; sister, Mildred Mathis of Sulphur Springs, Texas; numerous other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, J.W. Lax, Blackie Lax, and Bennie Glen Lax; sister, Rachel Jobe; and daughter-in-law, Corinne Lax.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway, Allen, Texas. Interment will follow at 2:15 p.m. at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. The family will receive friends during a visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
