IN LOVING MEMORY

April Regina Foster

Apr 18 1982 - Feb 11 2025

April’s journey began on April 18, 1982, in Westland, Michigan, where she was born to parents Benrick Sr. and Regina Coats. As the second of four children and the eldest daughter, her presence in the Coats family was one of joy, adventure, and love. Growing up in Inkster, Michigan, she was deeply family-oriented, cherishing time spent with her immediate and extended family, whether during holiday meals, family reunions, or simple weekend gatherings. As a child, she kept her parents "on their toes" with her lively and playful spirit, which became a source of joy and inspiration for everyone who knew her.

At an early age, she accepted Christ into her life and was baptized at Oakland Church of Christ in Southfield, Michigan, under the leadership of the late Dr. R. Vernon Boyd. Her faith was the cornerstone of her existence, and she remained actively engaged in the church community, participating in youth ministry activities such as the Michigan Christian Youth Camp and Bible Bowl competitions.

April excelled academically, attending Wayne-Westland Community Schools. A well-rounded student, she played the clarinet in the concert band, competed in Varsity volleyball, and contributed actively to her school community. She graduated with honors from Wayne Memorial High School in 2000. Her passion for learning continued at Eastern Michigan University (EMU), where she pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree, graduating in 2004. Later, she earned a Master of Education in Curriculum & Instruction from Concordia University in 2013, embodying a lifelong commitment to education.

In 2001, during her time at EMU, April met the love of her life, Jumel Foster. Their connection was rooted in faith, mutual respect, and an unwavering devotion to one another. On July 5, 2008, she and Jumel united in holy matrimony in Southfield, Michigan. Throughout their marriage, Jumel was not only her husband but her confidant, protector, and unwavering source of strength. Their love was a testament to God's design for marriage—steadfast, enduring, and full of grace. This sacred union was blessed with two beautiful children, Lillyana Kay and Bryson Carl, who became the center of their world. She was a devoted wife and mother, treasuring every moment spent with her family. Whether cheering for her children at volleyball and football games, enjoying family vacations, or gathering around the dinner table for heartfelt conversations, her love for her family knew no bounds. Her love for the Lord was evident in the way she lived her life, and she took great pride in teaching her children about faith, rejoicing as she witnessed both of them choose baptism.

She and Jumel embarked on a new journey together when they relocated to Texas, seeking sunshine and fresh opportunities for their family. They settled in Little Elm, Texas, where they built a loving home filled with faith and laughter. In her free time, she enjoyed shopping. But not just any shopping – she loved thrifting! Whether it be in the store or online, she was always able to find a great deal.

April had a calling for education and dedicated her career to shaping young minds. She served in many capacities, including substitute teacher, second and third-grade teacher, early intervention specialist, and special education teacher working with children facing severe emotional and behavioral challenges. Her final assignment was at Killian Middle School in Lewisville, TX. where she held her students to high standards with a compassionate and understanding spirit, living by the mantra, “regulation before expectation.” Her classroom was a safe haven where children thrived under her guidance.

Her commitment to service extended beyond her career. She was an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, inspired by the grace and service of its members. She was initiated into the Eta Iota Omega Chapter in Inkster, Michigan, in November 2005, proudly sharing this legacy with her aunts and cousins.

April possessed a beautiful voice and loved to sing, lifting her praises to the Lord with joy in her heart. She especially delighted in gospel music, drawing strength from them during her journey with cancer. Even during her treatments, she was a beacon of hope, offering words of encouragement and affirmations of faith to fellow patients. Her unwavering trust in God's plan never faltered.

On February 11, 2025, she transitioned from life on earth to her heavenly home, surrounded by the family she loved so dearly. She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents. She leaves behind her devoted husband of sixteen years, Jumel Foster, who remains a living testament to their enduring love; her beloved children, Lillyana Kay and Bryson Carl Foster, who will forever carry her teachings in their hearts; her parents, Benrick Sr. and Regina Coats; her siblings, Benrick Coats Jr., Marcella (Marshall) Baker, and Jacquelyn Coats; and her nieces, MiKayla, Maya, McKinley, and Maliyah Baker; Kharter Coats; Lajayda and Jaliyah Foster; and Avaleigh Walker. She also leaves behind a loving, supportive group of relatives, church family, her sorority sisters, and countless friends who were blessed by her presence.

Her life was a testament to faith, love, and resilience. She lived with a heart full of grace and a spirit that uplifted those around her. Though she is no longer physically present, her legacy continues through the lives she touched, the love she shared, and the faith she demonstrated. She will forever be remembered as a woman of strength, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family and the Lord.
