Anthony Michael Doherty

Anthony Michael Doherty, of Plano, Texas, passed away on November 1, 2010. Anthony was born June 23, 1937, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Anthony Michael and Margaret (Shields) Doherty. He grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. On July 8, 1972 Anthony married Loretta Joyce Doherty in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Loretta preceded him in death on October 22, 1997. He later married Darlene Hallows Doherty on February 14, 2001, in Plano, Texas. Anthony enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1955. While proudly serving his country he received medals for the following: Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal With One Device, NCO PME Ribbon With One Device, Army Good Conduct Medal With One Device, Combat Readiness Medal With One Device, Medal for Humane Action, Humanitarian Service Medal With One Device, AF Longevity Service Ribbon With Six Devices, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal With Four Devices, AF Presidential Unit Citation With One Device, AF Outstanding Unit Award With Eleven Devices, RVN Gallantry Cross With Device, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, AF Good Conduct Medal with 7 Devices, Meritorious Service Medal with 1 Device, and AF Commendation Medal With One Device. Anthony was discharged from the service in 1985 after 30 years of service, and retired as a Chief Master Sergeant. He worked for the U.S. Census Bureau until his retirement in 2002. Anthony was the Past Commander of Casey Joyce All America VFW Post # 4380 in Plano, Texas. He enjoyed watching sports and spending time on the computer. He is survived by his wife, Darlene Doherty; sons, John Hall, Shawn Doherty, and Scott Cook; daughter, Shannon Cook; grandchildren, Fletcher Hall, Bridget Hall, Vanessa Torres, Loretta Doherty, Valentina Doherty, and Shawn Edward Doherty, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Ryker Hall, Fletcher Antonio Michael Hall, II, and Arianna Torres; sisters, Frances Pavonarius and husband Tom B., and Sister Patricia Doherty; nephew, Tom A. Pavonarius; niece, Geri-Ann Deputy; and, a host of other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife Loretta. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2010, 1:00 p.m., at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, in Plano, Texas. Interment with full military honors will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park, Allen, Texas. Family and friends are invited to the funeral home at their convenience to pay their respects and to sign the register book on Friday. The family will receive friends at a visitation beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Friday November 5, 2010 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas.
