Annette Staatz, 81 of Frisco, TX passed away January 22, 2023, with her son and loving friends at her side.
She was born April 1, 1941, in Williston, ND to Edna and Leo Erickson. After graduating high school, she could not wait to escape the harsh winters of North Dakota and moved west to Tacoma Washington to attend college at Pacific Lutheran University. She met her husband Karl M. Staatz on a blind date set up by mutual friends and they were married in August of 1962.
Annette was a farm girl at heart and loved gardening, playing the piano, and meeting new people. From her time on family farms in Washington and Oregon to their house in Texas, Annette could often be found attending to her vegetable and flower gardens. She shared her love of the outdoors with many and her joy was in watching in awe the nature all around her. In her early days on the farm, she loved canning home grown fruits and vegetables for her family to enjoy throughout the year. Family and friends gathered at the farm every fall to pick apples that were pressed into apple cider for all to enjoy.
Her service to the community included teaching others how to play the piano, serving in a women’s ministry and having an open home with her beloved quiet room where many found refuge and comfort in sharing their joys and burdens with Annette. She took great joy and loved being cared for by her husband Karl of 55 years. After his sudden passing in 2017 she was determined to continue living her best life, meeting new people, and finding purpose in her retirement. She found her new community among her many friends at Parkview Independent living. She continued giving back and sharing her talents by playing the piano while residents listened or gathered around for sing-a-longs and social time. Annette was a woman who endlessly shared her boundless love while fighting through many medical issues. A fall and broken hip in late November was her final battle with her earthly body. She passed peacefully Sunday evening to join her beloved husband in the comfort of heavenly eternity.
She is survived by her son Karl Staatz, brothers Jack Erickson and Lee Erickson, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews as well as many friends, family, and those she considered her adopted family including Gina Mahoney-Wilson her husband Joe and their children Nathan and wife Adrianna, Grant, and Stephanie. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held on February 11th at 3:30pm at Parkview Independent Living in Frisco TX.
