IN LOVING MEMORY

Anna Fodor

Sep 29 1938 - Jul 23 2017

Anna Fodor, devoted wife and mother of three, passed away on July 23, 2017, in McKinney, Texas. Anna was born in Piliscsaba, Hungary on September 29, 1938, to Johann and Anna Gaspar. She was the youngest of four children. Her mother passed away in 1942 when she was four years old. Her father had already received orders to join the Austrian/Hungarian military but received a pardon to stay home for four weeks and arrange for the funeral and care of the children. Her two brothers were drafted into World War II and she and her sister each lived with family. In 1946, after the war, her father and two brothers returned to Piliscsaba and the family was forced to leave Hungary because they were of German descent. In Germany, they were placed in holding camps while they were assigned to the village of Wallhausen, a farming village. Her two older brothers were each assigned to different farmers while her father, sister, along with herself were assigned to another farmer.  Eventually, the family moved to Stuttgart, Germany. In June of 1959, she met the love of her life, Jozsef Fodor. He was also an immigrant from Piliscsaba who had escaped in 1956 and later joined the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Frankfurt and went to visit family when he met Anna. It was love at first sight. They married in March of 1961 and during their military life, were stationed in Frankfurt, Berchtesgaden and Munich, Germany, and Fort Rucker, Alabama. In 1966, at the end of Joe’s service, they were reassigned to Norfolk, Virginia and moved to Chicago. In 1971, they moved to DeSoto, Texas until 1979 when business opportunities took them to Ireland, Belgium, New York, and Chicago to finally retire back in Texas in 2002.  Anna deeply loved her family, made many sacrifices, and was always there to guide and support us. She was proud of her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and their accomplishments. She was a dedicated member of the Dallas Frohsinn Singing Society for over 10 years.

Her legacy of family will endure for generations with memory-filled holidays and “Littell Family” trips to Europe, Disneyworld, Niagara Falls, Buffalo, Chicago, and Sea World.

She is survived by her brother Michael and sister Katherina of Germany; three children, daughter Annette Barker (Randy), daughter Susan Bishop (Darryl), and son Michael Fodor; three grandchildren: Steven Barker, Kelly Barker, and Christopher Bishop; and three great-granddaughters: Angela, Alexis and Amanda; and her beloved cat, Nala.

Anna was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother, Johann Gaspar.

A funeral mass will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, July 28, 2017 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in McKinney, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Thursday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas. Interment will be held at 1:15 p.m., Monday, July 31, 2017 at the DFW National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas.
