Ann Atkinson Dowdy, 89, of McKinney, Texas, passed away May 21, 2015 in McKinney. Ann was born November 6, 1925 in McKinney. She graduated from Kaufman High School and Texas State College for Women in Denton, now known as Texas Women's University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology. Ann married William C. (Bill) Dowdy, Jr. on August 31, 1947 in McKinney. After raising their family in Dallas, Ann and Bill were thrilled to return to McKinney in 1988. She was active in the Heritage Guild of Collin County, and was a member of the Heard-Craig Heritage Board of Trustees, several book clubs and other organizations. Ann and Bill were also active members of Trinity Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her son, Trey and wife Beth of Dallas; daughter, Jill Dowdy of Dallas; son, Dan and wife Kathy of Amarillo; grandchildren, Emily Dowdy Bush, and Meg Dowdy of Austin; Will Dowdy and wife Dana and Andrew Dowdy and wife Brooke of Dallas; Ed Dowdy and wife Gina of Amarillo; great grandchildren, Woody Bush of Austin, Cate Dowdy of Amarillo, Grace Dowdy and Wilson Dowdy, both of Dallas; and brother-in-law, Dr. James Dowdy of San Antonio.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, William C. (Bill) Dowdy, Jr.
A graveside service will be held on 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at Pecan Grove Cemetery, 1701 South McDonald, McKinney, 75069. Family and friends are invited to the funeral home at their convenience on Tuesday to sign the register book.
