Anita Kay Lomax Rushing, aged 77, passed away on December 6, 2021 in Frisco, Texas after a long courageous battle with multiple system atrophy. Anita was born on October 14, 1944 in Dallas, TX to Denver Lomax and Jessie May Lomax. She had 3 older brothers; Gene, Bill, and Raymond who loved her and teased her in equal measure. She married Larry Rushing in April 1966 and had two daughters, Stacy and Karen. She divorced in 1976 and began her journey as a single mother with her two girls in tow.
Anita graduated from Kimball high school in 1962 and worked mostly as an administrative assistant throughout her career at companies from Thorsen Tool to LaFarge cement to Elger plumbing to small law firms. She was always happiest in her work when helping others. She was even happier when she was able to retire.
Anita was a devout Christian who attended Church of Christ churches from birth and who spent the last 30 years as a member of South MacArthur Church of Christ now Christ Church Irving. She often participated in ladies groups and volunteer groups that she enjoyed very much. She always enjoyed participating in the holiday events at her church as well.
Anita was quintessentially a mother. Always there to care for her children and grandchildren when they needed her being absolutely fair the whole time so that no one ever felt bad or left out. She devoted her life to her 2 children Stacy and Karen, and 3 grandchildren, Shelby, Toby, and Owen and they all reaped the rewards of what she sowed. From the years when money was tight and she could only take her two young girls out with poster boards and let them gather leaves and twigs and any kind of “treasure” we could find to paste to our boards and make such beautiful art to the years where money was a little easier and we were able to go on weekend vacations or just buy a little something nice for ourselves to the grandmother years where she could afford to go on many adventures with her grandkids and open their hearts and minds to a whole new world of grandmotherly things such as museums, pottery painting, and the inevitable craft that each of her grandkids were required to do: swirling their hands around in shaving cream on the table.
Anita is survived by her daughters, Stacy McWain and Karen Henson, and grandchildren Shelby Scheuchl, Toby Henson, and Owen Henson and her son-in-law Frank McWain. She is also survived by her brother Raymond Lomax, sister-in-law Rosemary Lomax and their daughter, Debbie Saladin and her family. Also surviving her are Sherrie Hartsock, her niece, and her children Michelle, Daniel, and Melissa and their family; Vicki, her niece, and Matthew her great nephew; Don Lomax, her nephew, and Jimmy Lomax her great nephew. And not to forget all of the others who are so important in her life, Ray Hartsock, Thomas Hood, Shonda, Johnson, Marty Campise, Katie Lomax, Teresa Lomax, Lexie Johnson, Zoe Johnson, Ellie Lomax, Rowan Lomax, Andrew Lomax, and Evelyn Hood and of course, her best friends through life Ruth and Pat.
She is predeceased by her son-in-law Travis Henson, brother Bill Lomax, brother Gene Lomax, sister-in-law Chris Lomax and parents Denver and Jessie May.
