IN LOVING MEMORY

Amy Elizabeth Kankel

Sep 30 1998 - Apr 26 2022

Amy Elizabeth Kankel, beloved daughter, sister and granddaughter passed away April 26, 2022 in Dallas, after a long battle with depression.  Amy was born on September 30, 1998 and grew up in Plano, Texas.

Amy had a deep love for animals.  It didn’t matter whether it was a grasshopper, calf, horse, dog or cat.  Animals seemed to know they could trust her.  Numerous dogs and a couple calves found their way to her loving care, including her sweet kitten Nacho and treasured dogs Grizzly, Dixie and Holly.

Amy was a talented artist who, at the age of 6, won Best in Show for K-12 at the Lone Star Art Guild Art Show in Houston, Texas.  She loved photography and was especially adept at candid photographs of the dogs under her care at doggie daycare.  Most recently she hoped to use her talent to become a tattoo artist.

Amy was a person who felt life intensely.  She had a goofy side and a dry sense of humor if you knew her well.  She found solace in music, books, animals, and the outdoors.  Her happy place was at the beach on family vacations in Seaside, Florida.

She is survived by her parents, David and Kathleen Kankel of Plano, Texas; sister Brianne Kankel of Plano, Texas, grandmother, Barbara Baker of Dallas, Texas, aunts and uncles Carol and Ronnie White, Diane and Brian Markert, and Eileen Pierce, plus cousins, Kevin Lee, Jason Lee, Matthew and Katy Markert, Kayla and Cole Lujan, Katie White, and Megan and Kelby Combest. Amy was preceded in death by her grandfather, Ralph Baker and grandparents, Elroy and Ima Kankel.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 5, 2022 at King of Glory Lutheran Church in Dallas, Texas. The family will receive friends for a visitation Wednesday evening, May 4, 2022 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to SPCA of Texas or Simply Grace House in Dallas.
