IN LOVING MEMORY

Amy Kathryn Rhoades

Feb 25 1976 - Apr 08 2022

Amy Kathryn Rhoades, age 46, of Celina, Texas passed away on April 8, 2022, in McKinney, Texas. She was born on February 25, 1976, in Dallas, Texas to Gerald and Kathy (Anz) Rhoades.

Amy was born with a rare genetic condition called Seckel Syndrome. At birth, the doctors did not give much hope and Kathy was told Amy might only live to be 10 years old. With determination and much support from Scottish Rite Hospital and United Way, Amy flourished. She not only surpassed any limits the doctors had diagnosed, but she thrived! Amy attended the Mesquite ISD early childhood program and continued through Special Education until she walked the stage in 1998 at Mesquite High School. She loved to travel and had a special way with animals (or they had a way with her). Amy participated in Special Olympics for many years. Upon her mother’s passing in 2008, she moved to Celina to live with her sister’s family. She quickly became a Bobcat fan; especially, when her nieces and nephews were playing. Her favorite week of the year was Family Camp at T Bar M Camps where the coaches and staff loved and cared for her deeply. She enjoyed “going to work” and we are grateful for Aspire Day Habilitation in Celina. Amy also enjoyed attending Mr. Dudley’s first grade Sunday school class for many years. She never met a stranger and was known for her knock-knock jokes. Amy will be remembered for her smile that could light up a room, and she will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her brothers and sister, Johnny Allen and wife, Jiena of Keller, Texas, Jana Greening and husband, Dane, of Celina, Texas, and Todd Rhoades and wife, Melissa of Sachse, Texas; nieces, Katy Carter and husband, Garrett, and Lacy Greening; nephews, Jace and Luke Greening; great-nephews, Cooper and Bowen Carter; and numerous cousins.

Amy was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Kathy Rhoades.

The family would like to thank Dr. Khan and the ICU staff at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – McKinney, especially Casey, for taking such good care of Amy.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at First Celina Baptist Church, 841 N. Preston Road, Celina, Texas 75009.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations my be made to Scottish Rite Hospital, Special Olympics, or the Children’s Department at First Celina Baptist Church.
