Alvis Gaylen Williams

Alvis Gaylen Williams of Murphy, Texas surrounded by family peacefully passed away on November 29, 2016 at the age of 69.  He was born on December 29, 1946 to Alvis and Laverna (Constantine) Williams in Harlingen, Texas. Gaylen married Claudia Housley on December 28, 1968 in Weslaco, Texas.  He worked for TI-Raytheon for 37 years as an Electrical Engineer in Advance Technology.  His contributions made an impact in the Navy’s capabilities especially the ARPDD radar.  He also helped in the development of DLP technologies.  Gaylen loved muscle cars, especially his 1965 Plymouth Satellite, Goldy, which he restored.  Gaylen’s love of music came from singing old time bluegrass/gospel songs around the piano with his family.  Gaylen played the mandolin, guitar and banjo and even built a mandolin for his daughter, Jennifer.

Gaylen is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Claudia Williams of Murphy; daughter, Jennifer Samuell and husband, Zach of McKinney; grandchildren, Stella, Vivienne and Housley; sisters, Glenda Echols of Corpus Christi, Deanna Maples of Pasedena; brother, Wade Williams and wife, Elizabeth of Houston; sister-in-law, Nora Gorhum and Dr. Robert Gorhum of Pearsall; and many other loving nieces, nephews, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by parents.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 9, 2016 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel in Allen.  Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen.  The family will receive friends during a visitation on Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. 

Memorials may be made in Gaylen’s name to Carcinoid Cancer Foundation (CCF)
