Alvin “Mickey” Wright III passed away on Friday, March 18, 2022. He was born October 4, 1954, in Lubbock, Texas to Onetta and Alvin Wright, Jr.
He graduated from Estacado High School in 1973. After graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served from 1973 to 1976. During his service, he graduated from the U.S. Army Quartermaster School at Fort Lee Virginia, earning a Repair Parts Specialist certification. Additionally, he saw combat in the Vietnam War and received a National Defense Service Medal.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Joyce Wright, Pastor Kenneth Wright, and Gayle Gragg; as well as his life partner, Andrewlyn Lanier.
Mickey leaves to cherish his memory one uncle, Fletcher Hicks; three siblings: Michael Wright, Stephen Wright and Helena Wright-Jones; four children: Marquis Clay, DeAndre, Larinda, Alvin “Tiger” Wright, IV and Marquis Clay. He’s also survived by eight grandchildren: Shatorian, Dajorian, Danae, Courtney, DeAndre, Jr., Tavares, Jessica, Mackenzie, Zy’Quis and Tamjiney and one great grandchild, Ny’Hir.
He also leaves his extended family, who played a significant role in the later years of his life, which includes Breann Penns, Brittany Martinez and their families; as well as a host of family and friends.
Mickey was known for his BOOMING baritone voice, his love for his family, cooking, everything sweet accompanied by a side of Bluebell Homemade Vanilla ice cream, and his soft spot for children, especially Ortencia, who’s affectionately known as NuNu.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 7, 2022 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. Inurnment will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 7, 2022 at Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211.
