Alvin Dean

Alvin Dean, age 92, of Richardson, Texas, passed away November 26, 2007 in Kaufman, Texas. He was born March 31, 1915, in Seguin, Texas, to George C. and Dora (Karrass) Dean. As a young man he worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps, Roosevelt’s Tree Army , from 1933 to 1937. On December 24, 1940, he married Okemah Laverne Long in Wichita Falls, Texas. She preceded him in death in 1994. During World War II, he was a contractor building phone lines to military bases in Texas. Following the war, he began his career at Southwestern Bell as a lineman, working his way into management, and retiring after 42 years of service. He was a member of Waterview Church of Christ in Richardson. He is survived by his son, Rodney Austin Dean of Terrell, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his wife, Okemah; and parents. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, December 1, 2007, at Waterview Church of Christ, 1409 N. Waterview Dr., Richardson, TX 75080, with Robert Oglesby, Murl Nelms, and Robert Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends during a visitation at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home on Friday evening beginning at 6:00 PM. The family wishes to express their thanks to Nedra Eldridge, Bonnie Buster, and Sharon Wells for their compassionate care during the last few months. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christian Care Center, Hospice Unit, 1000 Wiggins Parkway, Mesquite, TX 75150, Christ Haven Children’s Home, 4150 Keller Haslet Rd, Keller, TX 76244 or World Bible School, 13441 Limecreek Rd, Cedar Park, TX 78613.
