Alvin R. Barnett

Alvin R. Barnett, age 83, of Garland, Texas, passed away April 4, 2011, in Garland. Alvin was born August 28, 1927, in Blue Ridge, Texas, to Ernest and Jewel (Gray) Barnett. He married Melba Yates on November 1, 1947, in Blue Ridge, Texas. Alvin was a mechanic and a longtime member of Plano Good Sams Traveling Club. He is survived by his wife, Melba Barnett of Garland, Texas; son, Shane Barnett and wife, Courtney of Paris, Texas; daughter, Diana Barnett Knight and husband Larry of Garland, Texas; ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Mills of Grand Prairie, Texas; sisters-in-law, Georgie Barnett of Minnesota, Ionne Barnette of Anaheim, California, Betty Antwiler of Caddo, Oklahoma, and Juanice Yates of Emory, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Bettie Barnett and brothers, Leland Barnett and Waymon Barnette. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon, Thursday, April 7, 2011, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Allen, Texas. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen. The family will receive friends during a visitation from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday evening at the funeral home.

As a little kid seeing Uncle Alvin drink cold coffee all day long was a first for me! He would tell me how good it was and I would make a face! Yuk!
