Alphonsa C. Harris Garlington was born March 7, 1956, in Lansing, Michigan. She was the eldest of five children from the union of Alphonso C.T. Harris and Arthemesia Chatters Harris. Alphonsa was an intellectual who enjoyed books and music. Graduating from high school at the age of 16, she went on to obtain her bachelor’s degree in political science and her law degree from Southern University.
She was the dedicated partner and wife to Nathaniel Garlington for more than 47 years and loving mother to Grayson and Sloane. One of her proudest titles was Grandmama to Cillian and the late Hannah Greer. Having a career in insurance for more than 25 years, she served as a mentor, leader, and friend to many in the field and took special interest in those pursuing legal careers. Alphonsa was thoughtful and selfless - always remembering dates, details, and doing all she could to care for those she loved.
Alphonsa was preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter, and brother, Hans E. Harris.
Left to celebrate her memory are her husband, children, and grandson, sisters, Jocelyn Harris and Addyce-Irene Harris, sister-in-law, Carole R. Harris, brother, Alphonso (Patricia) Harris, Jr., and a host of nieces and nephews, extended family members, and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.
