IN LOVING MEMORY

Alma Morrison

Feb 10 1932 - Aug 17 2022

Alma Morrison passed to her eternal rest on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 in McKinney, Texas. She was 90 years old.

She was born on February 10, 1932 in Westminister, Texas. Alma was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Morrison, who she married in October 1949.

She was blessed to be surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and is survived by her daughter, Leta Buchanan; son, David Morrison; grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Alma lived through the Great Depression, World War II, the majority of the 20th century and the first decades of the 21st. The world’s pace of change accelerated during her lifetime, but she and Howard persisted in raising their small family through the many milestones of a life well lived. Like many of their generation, Alma and Howard shared a quiet determination to live a life worthy of the blessings they’d received. They valued family and work and a place to call their own.

Alma worked as a seamstress until she retired to dedicate her time to her young grandchildren and supporting her children’s new families who lived nearby. She was abundantly hospitable so children’s friends who spent Sunday afternoons at the Morrison’s between morning and evening church services or neighbors who came over for a lively game of canasta would invariably be treated to biscuits and gravy, BLT sandwiches, or no bake oatmeal cookies, depending on the time of day. She later applied her skills as a seamstress to sewing custom prom dresses for her appreciative granddaughters.

Alma enjoyed crossword puzzles and game shows, but her deepest love was for her grandchildren and she was the maternal caregiver that every young child holds dear. Her grandchildren knew her to be their ultimate comforter and her home, their safest sanctuary. Bumped heads, bitter tears, bruised egos and broken hearts all received the soothing balm only her hands could bring and throughout their lives, they always knew where to run when they needed to be reminded they were loved.   Alma will be missed dearly by those who knew and loved her.
