Allen Dwight Fleener

Accomplished entrepreneur and business executive, devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, Allen “Al” Dwight Fleener, joined his wife, Marge, in the Kingdom of God on October 13, 2022.

Al was a pioneer in voice recognition software.  He started his career as one of the first computer salespeople at NCR corporation and rapidly progressed to become a sales executive.  He directed the sales growth for numerous technology companies, including Equimatics, Periphonics, and most notably, Intervoice in Dallas where he led the company as President and CEO to an IPO and was recognized as DFW Entrepreneur of the Year.  Later as a venture capitalist and personal investor, Al provided capital and leadership as a director on the boards of a variety of Texas technology companies.  Al delivered high integrity leadership and mentorship through his visionary approaches to business innovation and growth with both a contagious wit and belief in perseverance to achieve what’s possible.  Outside of business, Al enjoyed playing golf and contributed his time and leadership as board president of Bent Tree Country Club. As a veteran, Al honorably served his country from 1950 – 1956 in both the United States Marine Corps and the Army of the United States, including a tour of duty in Korea.

Many charitable and educational organizations benefited from Al’s philanthropy and leadership including his undergraduate alma mater, DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, where he was a benefactor and Trustee, Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, where he gained his MBA he was a benefactor, lecturer and advisor for the Olin School of Business and earned special recognition for his contributions to the school and the business community.  Student scholars at Washington University have benefited from the generosity of Al and Marge’s scholarships for both the business school and art and architecture school.  The couple was deeply committed to the church and its missions through their time talents and gifts. 

Allen is survived by his three daughters, Julie, Barbie, and Marjorie, Marjorie’s husband Dave; and five grandchildren, Christopher, Amanda, Laney, Peter, and Alex. 

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Incarnation, 3966 McKinney Ave., Dallas, Texas 75204.  A celebration reception will follow immediately after the service.
