Allen Ardis Shaffer

Allen Ardis Shaffer, born October 4, 1929, in Shreveport, Louisiana, received God’s ultimate healing on September 22, 2018 at the age of 88. He graduated from Riverside Military Academy in 1947.  Allen served in the United States Army from 1948 to 1953, and during this time he fought in the Korean Conflict.  He attended Officers Candidate School graduating as a Second Lt. in 1952.  Allen graduated from Louisiana State University in August of 1958 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.  He received memberships in two honorary scholastic fraternities: Phi Tau Sigma and Tau Beta Phi.  In 1964, Allen earned a Master of Science from Southern Methodist University in Mechanical Engineering. He worked for Westinghouse from 1958 to 1960 and Texas Instruments from 1960 until he retired in 1991.   Allen taught at Dallas Baptist University after retiring from TI.  He was a member of Prestonwood Baptist Church for 29 years.  He served as a deacon and was a member of the Board of Trustees.  Allen was also active in The Gideons International and the Bill Glass Prison Ministry for many years. Allen loved his Lord and His Church. He served in many different capacities within Prestonwood Baptist Church.  

Allen is survived by his wife of 62 years, Patricia Wade Freeman Shaffer; son, Allen Wade Shaffer; daughter, Mary Shannon Shaffer; grandsons, Julian Wade Shaffer and Joshua Allen Shaffer; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.  

He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Harvey Shaffer, Sr., mother, Mattie Lou Ardis Shaffer; two brothers, Clarence Harvey Shaffer, Jr. and Glen Ardis Shaffer; two sisters, Martha Margaret Shaffer Dickson and Mattie Lou Shaffer Webb; and nephew Glen Allen Shaffer.  

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at Prestonwood Baptist Church Chapel, 6801 West Park, Plano, Texas 75093.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Prestonwood Pregnancy Center, 690 W Campbell Rd #150, Richardson, Texas 75080.  

Special thanks to the deacons and ministers at Prestonwood Baptist Church who faithfully visited Allen during his time in hospice. Special thanks and God’s blessings go to the staff at Grand Brook Memory Care of Allen at Twin Creeks, who lovingly cared for Allen.
