Alice Milam Hanks

June 14, 1959 - May 18, 2020

Alice Milam Hanks of Princeton, Texas passed away on May 18, 2020 at the age of 60 after a courageous battle with metastic breast cancer. She was at home and surrounded by family. Alice lived a beautiful life that was full of adventure. She was born on June 14, 1959 to Doris Jean (Thompson) Milam and Jerry Dale Milam in Okinawa, Japan. As a child, she traveled around a lot since her dad was in the military. She graduated from Nacogdoches High School in 1977 and immediately began working on her degree in education at Stephen F. Austin State University. Since then, she has genuinely enjoyed teaching students over the course of 38 years in Texas as well as Tennessee.

Alice was passionate about life and always kept a good attitude! She loved spending time with her loved ones, whether she was riding dirtbikes, traveling, working on projects, or simply enjoying nature. She capitalized on every day that she had on this earth and lived without regret. Alice’s legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of those that she impacted.

She is survived by her husband, Barry; son, Austin and his wife, Jess; daughter, Paige; stepsons, Barrett and Brayden; granddaughter, Aspyn; and her siblings, Jerry, Nancy, Glenda, and Deborah.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents.

The family would like to thank her medical team, Hospice nurses, and all of those that have followed “Alice’s Attitude” and prayed for her courageous battle over the last two years. She will be sorely missed. You are encouraged to share a memory, send your condolences, and share your information through the guestbook. A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.

Tina Conn, May 22, 2020 Mrs. Hanks was one of my daughter's biggest advocates. She was responsible for my daughter's success both at Hart and Sloan Creek. My daughter would not have been able to achieve A honor roll without the foundation that Mrs.Hank's provided for her. She was always there with a hug or a smile or to answer a late night text message on her personal cell phone. She will be missed dearly. Sabrina Romaniello, May 21, 2020 I had the privilege of working with Alice at Hart Elementary. We shared many students, which allowed us the opportunity to get to know one another. I didn't get to know Alice for very long or very well, but we shared a few students and got to work together a little over the last couple of years. Her soft spoken manner and sweet smile were calming and she was willing to try anything to help a child be successful. I know her school family will miss her very much. Prayers to the family. Jennifer Stinson, May 20, 2020 My deepest condolences to all your family. I only knew Alice for a year but she was truly an amazing and unique warrior. Her attitude was inspiring and she will be deeply missed. Regan Aguirre, May 20, 2020 Paige, I am so sorry for the loss of your Mother. I know words are never enough, because I lost my Moma when she was only 55. It does get easier with time, but you will never forget the bond you had and all the wonderful memories made tougher! Prayers for you and your family to find peace. Laurie Gabehart, May 20, 2020 I worked right across the hall from Alice. I never met a more dedicated and devoted advocate for children then Alice. She was always the first to be there and the last to leave. She always took the time to listen to my own personal problems, and I pray she felt the same about me. I am so saddened by this loss, and my prayers go out to your family. As you know, you were so lucky to have her as a wife, mother, and grandmother. She was truly a blessing.
Erin Goff, May 20, 2020 I have worked with Alice the past 3 years. She was a hard worker and confident at what she did. She always talked about her family with a huge smile on her face. My favorite memory is right after her first round, her immune system was low and she couldn’t attend meetings. She chose me to carry her around on an iPad throughout the meeting. I will truly miss seeing her around the school. She had a true passion for her students. Praying for you all!! Alice will be missed. Tori Dodd, May 20, 2020 My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time. Misty McDonald , May 20, 2020 Ride on.

carolynmorley@verizon.net, May 19, 2020 We are greatly saddened by the loss of the patriach of your family, but are at peace that your wife and mother is finally at rest. We pray the family finds comfort and peace. Sincerely, The Ordaz Family Belinda Ordaz, May 19, 2020 There are two of some of the only memories I have with Alice that I will always cherish. My 18th birthday party was thrown at her house and she welcomed me with open arms and gave me a lot of college advice as I was going to the same university she did. Another memory is Alice taking her sister, Glenda, (my grandma) to eat at their favorite place to eat in Desoto which happened to be where I worked. She always welcomed me with the sweetest smile and I'm forever grateful for these memories.
