Dr. Edward “Ed” Day of McKinney, Texas passed away on May 27, 2019 at the age of 82. He was born on November 11, 1936 to James Alfred and Gladys Pauline (Partin) Day in Nacogdoches, Texas. Ed began his education career at the University of Maryland where he received his bachelor’s and master’s degree. Ed went on to receive his second master’s degree from the University of North Carolina in Ashville. The family then moved again so he could earn his Doctorate from Purdue University. Ed began his first associate professor position at the University of Nebraska, where he taught for several years, before he moved to the University of Central Florida in Orlando. He retired from the University of Texas in Dallas after many years of teaching. Ed’s family remembers his love for a good whiskey or bourbon. He and his wife, Nancy, loved to travel. Their favorite trips were when they traveled to Munich, Germany and London, England. His home was always where Nancy was; what she wanted to do was what he wanted to do.
Ed is survived by his wife, Nancy; children, Shannon McKay and husband, Terry of McKinney, Texas, Shawn Turner and husband, Bill of Allen, Texas, Jennifer Lawhorn of McKinney, Texas, and Andrew Day and wife, Angie of Frisco, Texas; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, June 29, 2019 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.
