Alford L. Nelson, age 80, of Fairview, Texas, passed away February 6, 2010, in Allen, Texas. He was born October 10, 1929, in McKinney, Texas to Paul Taylor and Gladys Nona (Copus) Nelson. Alford grew up in Collin County where he graduated from Prosper High School. He enlisted in the United States Army on August 5, 1948. He served in the Korean Conflict earning the Army of Occupation Medal. He was honorably discharged on February 13, 1952. Mr. Nelson married Winona Ross Wood on May 9, 1953, in Dallas, Texas. He worked as a supervisor in the parts and supply department for Collins Radio which became Rockwell International for over 25 years. Mr. Nelson was a member of the Church of Christ . He is survived by his sister: Bonnie Preslar and her husband Jimmy, of Robstown, Texas; sisters-in-law Jenna Nelson, of Winnsboro, Texas, and Betty Nelson, of San Antonio, Texas; brother-in-law Eugene Roberts and his wife Tajuana, of Allen, Texas, several nieces and nephews, and a host of other loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Winona, who preceded him on September 5, 2001, three brothers, and one sister. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, February 9, 2010, in the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel, with Jerry King, minister, officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Allen Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to the funeral home at their convenience on Monday to pay their respects and to sign the register book. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Monday, February 8, 2010, beginning at 6:00 PM. The family extends special recognition to his faithful and dedicated sitters: Norine Johnson, Betty Bevely and Donna DeShazo.
