IN LOVING MEMORY

Alexander Gordon MacLennan

Jul 11 1927 - Aug 11 2026

The family of Alexander Gordon MacLennan sadly announces his passing on August 11, 2026 in Allen Texas.  He was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, in July, 1927, the second born of six children to the late Donald and Christine (Ferguson) MacLennan.

He attended Mt Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick and started his career with Dominion Steel in Sydney, Nova Scotia. He had a long and illustrious career working with high level politicians to help promote and grow industries in Canada. This led to a position in the Canadian Consulate in Dallas, Texas.  Always one to help others and promote Canada, he helped start the Canadian Club in Dallas to unite Canadians working here.

Gordon was always strong willed and a bit stubborn and at 90 years old he decided to drive back to Canada (2400 miles) - a trip he had made frequently, alone.  He successfully completed the round trip and continued to talk about doing it again, but family was able to discourage that thought.  He finally sold his car this year at 99 years of age of his own volition, not on the order of any doctor or government.

People will remember him as being very kind and always willing to help. He noticed people, paid attention to them and touched many hearts. He would make sure to visit local friends frequently (Miss Pat) and never missed calling people on their birthday. Life is going to be quieter and emptier without his effervescent personality brightening people’s day.

Gordon was predeceased by his wife Anne-Marie and daughters, Carol Anne MacLennan and Joan MacLennan.  He was the last of his siblings, being predeceased by brother, Donald, sisters, Lorna, Greta, Beryl, and Ester.  He is survived by many family members and friends in Canada and the United States that will miss him dearly. We will always remember his tag line when he ended a phone call of “Love Ya, Love Ya, Love Ya”.

Funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, September 4, 2026, at First United Methodist Church, 601 S Greenville Avenue, Allen, Texas 75002.  He is being cremated and will be later interned in the MacLennan family plot in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia.

In lieu of flowers or donations, embrace the day and enjoy it for Gordon and call a friend.
