Alex Manuel Casimiro was born May 15, 1963 in Puerto Padre, Cuba to Manuel Casimiro and Eulalia Romero Casimiro. At the age of seven his family fled the communist dictatorship of their homeland and immigrated to the U S to provide the children an opportunity for a better life. Alex was always particularly proud of his father for taking such a brave step which changed the lives of so many.
When not studying or working during his childhood in West New York, New Jersey, Alex would most often be found on the basketball courts. While he aspired to be a college basketball player following graduation, the best academic opportunity arose at the University of Miami. In 1981 with Alex attending school at the U the entire family relocated to Miami, Florida to provide the support system to which all had become accustomed. While in Miami Alex found two of his life-long loves: The Hurricanes and Carmen Marie Munera.
1985 proved to be a most memorable year for Alex as he received his B S from the University of Miami, celebrated his 22nd birthday by marrying Carmen on May 15, and fulfilled an obligation to his adopted country by joining the United States Navy. Alex attended Officer Candidate School and completed his tour of duty with the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade in 1989. Following his discharge Alex went to work for Texas Instruments in Sherman, Texas where his Information Technology Department received company-wide recognition for their contributions to the science of manufacturing and operations. Throughout his twenty year career with TI Alex continuously received increased recognition and responsibility. He completed his Master of Science at SMU during this time and was most recently the Manufacturing Operations World Wide Information Technology Manager for TI.
Alex was a firm believer in supporting his community, unfortunate people in need, and causes about which he felt passionate. Alex was active in his community as a parishioner of St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church, a coach for many years of youth sports, a member of the McKinney YMCA Board of Directors since its inception, a TI Diversity Initiatives and United Way Chairperson, a supporter and award winner of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, and a radical supporter and Alumnus Extraordinaire of the University of Miami.
Alex Casimiro died on September 25, 2009 at Hillcrest Baptist Hospital in Waco, Texas from injuries suffered in a car accident near Lake Whitney. He is survived by his soul mate and wife of twenty-four years, Carmen Marie Munera Casimiro; his daughters, Crystal Lee Powell and husband Tyler of McKinney, and Ashley Marie Casimiro of San Antonio; his son, Alex Manuel Casimiro II of McKinney; his parents, Manuel Casimiro and Eulalia Romero Casimiro of Miami, Florida; his sisters, Arlene Perez and husband Luis of Atlanta, Georgia, and Amy Madruga and husband Jaime of Miami; his grandson, Trenton Ryan Powell of McKinney as well as numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
A Remembrance Gathering will be held Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at 4 pm at St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Community Church in McKinney, followed by a Celebration of Life at Nate’s Seafood Restaurant in Allen where Miami orange and green is the expected apparel. In lieu of flowers the family is establishing a fund to provide scholarships to the University of Miami and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers in the name of Alex Manuel Casimiro.
