Van Simpson

Alan Van Simpson of McKinney, Texas passed away October 13, 2021 at the age of 67.  He was born on April 18, 1954 and grew up in the Fayetteville, Arkansas area. His family attended Johnson Church of Christ.  Van graduated from Fayetteville High School where he excelled as a track athlete.  He attended the University of Arkansas and graduated from the Preston Road School of Preaching.   Van married Laura Turner on November 24, 1978 in Fayetteville. They moved to Greenville, TX where he worked as a youth minister and began a family.  Van continued his education at East Texas State University where he earned his master’s degree in educational administration.  Van worked as a principal in Greenville, Van, Miller Grove, and Frisco Texas.  He retired in January 2021 after 38 years in education.  

Van's caring, kindness, and sense of humor brought joy to the lives of those who knew him. He was a dedicated father who always put his family first.  Van loved nothing more than spending time with his wife, sons, and granddaughters. He set an example of love and compassion that has made a lasting impact.  

Van is survived by his wife of 42 years, Laura Simpson; sons, Michael Simpson and wife, Eydie of Melissa, Texas, David Simpson of McKinney, Texas, and Stephen Simpson and wife, Jen of Grand Junction, Colorado; grandchildren, Larke Simpson and Ivy Simpson; mother, Roberta Simpson of Huntsville, Arkansas; sisters, Teena Cobb and husband, Dan of Springdale, Arkansas, Linda Keck and husband, Larry of Huntsville, Arkansas, and Jamie Skelton and husband, J.D. of Granbury, Texas; several nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and friends.  He was preceded in death by father, Albert Simpson.

The family will receive family and friends during a remembrance gathering to be held on Saturday afternoon, October 16, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.
